Ubuntu, the right way
A clean Canonical 24.04 LTS base, cloud-init enabled, with the latest kernel compatible with Firecracker. Everything a real Ubuntu server has: apt, snap, systemd, journald, nftables.
The hypervisor is what is different. Firecracker strips the legacy device emulation that bloats traditional KVM/QEMU stacks: faster cold boot, smaller per-VM overhead, smaller attack surface. KVM hardware isolation is unchanged.
Common workloads
Node, Python, Go, Rust, PHP. Reverse proxy in front, certbot for TLS, systemd to supervise.
Docker, Podman, Kubernetes single-node. The dedicated kernel makes nested container runtimes work normally.
Remote workstations cloned from a snapshot. Fresh per branch, destroyed when the PR closes.
Ephemeral microVMs per build. Per-second billing matches CI execution patterns.
KVM hardware isolation, dedicated kernels, per-VM network namespaces. Included on every instance, no add-ons required.
Pricing
Pay with cryptocurrency, billed per second in USD credits. No monthly commitments, no bandwidth fees. Destroy instances anytime and billing stops immediately.
